As a teacher, finding resources that are quick to access and interesting can be a challenge!

Here are a few links that are from 2011 and 2013 Conference papers.

First up is the recently released conference notes from NCKP 2013 (National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy in America):

For streamlining your studio try the presentation by Shana Kirk, Stella Sick and Kathleen Theise. There are also articles on sight-reading, intermediate repertoire and Technology in the studio.

Proceedings from the 2011 Australian Piano Pedagogy Conference (APPC) have also been released. Take a look here:

I enjoyed reading “Play Piano Play: The Pedagogy of Friedrich Gulda” By Jovanni-Rey de Pedro, especially after seeing Jovanni perform Gulda’s “Light my Fire” at the 2013 APPC. Here is a little clip of Gulda performing “Light my Fire” (Jovanni-Rey doesn’t have one uploaded so you get to see the original!)

Jovanni-Rey also premiered a Norton piece that you can watch here, at the APPC 2013.

From these proceedings I thought “Unlock their learning style! Unlock your teaching style! An interactive Journey!” by Dr Janet Palmberg Piechocinski would also be of interest to other teachers.

There are lots of resources on these two main conference links! So make a cuppa and have a read, or perhaps next time a student is away from their lesson, use the time to read an article!
